Ford Cortina 2.0 Ghia estate (Owned: 1991)
This car was bought for a family holiday to Ireland in 1991, and was eventually sold for a fraction of the purchase price. It was pretty ropey, but nevertheless completed its task, covering over 2000 miles without major incident.
In fact, the only time it actually broke down was after returning from the holiday, during the two months or so that it took to sell the car; and that was only due to a flat battery.
It did, however, have one or two surprises in store for us during the holiday. The whole episode formed the basis of an article which I wrote for the short-lived Jalopy magazine about a year later.
